Chapter 12 - Reintroducing species
Advocates for nature are needed now more than ever. If you were inspired by the Bison reintroduction project, you can become a member of the Wildwood Trust or Kent Wildlife Trust, or find a Trust local to you and see how you can get involved.
Supporting reintroduction programs can start right in your back garden! Research what projects are happening locally in your area to support native species, and find out if there are specific plants you can grow, or even small habitats you can build, to help the projects succeed.
Check out the Beaver Trust at https://beavertrust.org/ to find out how they’re reintroducing beavers to the UK to help build climate-resilient landscapes and restore freshwater habitats. Make a donation, fundraise, or spread the word to help this species become a key part of the nation’s nature network once more.
Follow the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme on Instagram at @socp.official to discover how they’re fighting to save one of the most endangered species in the world through reintroduction.
Chapter 13 - Success Stories In Conservation
Check out Saving Wildcats on https://savingwildcats.org.uk/ to learn more about the incredible work they do, and you can even sponsor a wildcat to help secure a prosperous future for Scotland's wildcats!
Try creating a positive impact by volunteering with your local wildlife project or clean-up crew each week. Or why not use your vacation days to travel abroad and support global conservation initiatives at the same time? The Great Projects is a great place to get started at https://www.thegreatprojects.com/.
Use your voice for change. Organizations like Greenpeace work internationally and have all the tools you need to get out there and be heard by your leaders–from protesting against deep sea mining to petitioning your local government representatives.
Stay educated by checking out conservation activist and writer @georgemonbiot on Instagram for regular content debunking environmental myths and highlighting real solutions.
Donate, fundraise, and adopt animals from conservation charities that need help to keep their work going. You can be the help they’ve been waiting for!
Chapter 14 - Animal Rights
Take action to help ban fur farming around the world! Organizations like PETA have resources for activists who want to speak out and make a difference and be a voice for the voiceless. Check out their website: https://www.peta.org.uk/action/type/activist-resource/
Unite with groups like Animal Rebellion, who are working to fight the system from every level to change the world for animals. You can find out more about their campaign for a plant-based future, and how to get involved at https://animalrebellion.org/
Spread awareness online alongside the likes of Earthling Ed (@earthlinged) who you can find on YouTube and Instagram sharing facts, stories, and news about the reality of animal welfare and what we can do to change it.
Lead by example in your everyday life. From what you wear to what you eat, and the businesses you spend your money with, you can actively stand up for animal rights with every choice you make.
